Marian Lake is 5 km long, the deepest
point is 45 ft, the average depth is 20 ft. There are many great shoals to fish
as well as plenty of excelent weed beds at the ends of the many bays. Plenty of
fishing for Walleye, great Northern Pike, exelent Small Mouth Bass and lots of
Jumbo Perch. A virtually private lake with only three other cottages on
it in Marten River Ontario.

Fishing for walleye in Marten River
crystal, clear lakes can be very frustrating. Walleye in Marion Lake can be
found in 5 feet of water early in the morning, late in the evening and
throughout the night. During the day, these same fish will be found in Marion
Lake as deep as 20 to 30 feet. Fishing with light line is a must when fishing
in clear water. You can double your strikes by using 4 pound line instead of 8
or 10 pound line.
Severe cold fronts can put a hold on
walleye fishing in our Marten River lakes. The day after a cold front usually
has cool temperatures with bright, sunny skies. Walleye will hug the bottom in
Marion Lake and refuse to feed for up to 3 days following a cold front. Walleye
in clear water are affected for longer than walleye in murky water.
It might take 3 days for walleye to start
feeding in clear water lakes, while walleye in murky rivers will barely be
affected. Many Marten River walleye fishermen catch fish in murky rivers the
next day after a cold front.
As a general rule, you need to fish deeper
and closer to the bottom after a cold front. Try using live bait with stinger
hooks and you will have more success. Lighter line is a must also after a cold
front. 4 pound test is recommended.
