Fishing Marten River Red Cedar Lake in Ontario
Fishing the famous Marten River area is
well known for its sparkling lakes, rivers and streams. Temagami River and
Marten River provides excellent flow of water to sustain the fishery, which is
second to none. Red Cedar Lake is over 16 miles long with 90 miles of scenic
shoreline. You can always fish Red Cedar Lake since the water is sheltered and
never gets too rough. Great fishing for Ontario walleye, northern pike, perch,
lake trout and smallmouth bass fishing all this in one of Marten River's larger
lakes.
Red Cedar Lake Walleye are very
mobile. They will swim up to 100 miles to reach their spawning destination.
They will also move constantly throughout the day based on the current
conditions. The light penetration, water temperature and oxygen content will
all play a role in where the fish will be located throughout the day in Red
Cedar Lake. Walleye are arguably the best-tasting freshwater fish. Marten River
anglers love catching and eating these fish. They are easy to clean and
great-tasting on the grill or in the frying pan. Walleye fishing in Marten
River continues to grow each year. Fishermen will travel long distances for
some excellent walleye fishing. Walleye tournaments are becoming very popular
throughout the Marten River and Temagami also.
Marten River Walleye can be caught many
different ways in Red Cedar Lake. These fish are mostly found in deeper water,
however, you can find them in less than 20 feet of water in the spring, fall,
and when they are feeding in the mornings, evenings and throughout the night.
It is not uncommon to catch walleye in water as shallow as 4 or 5 feet, but
most of the time, they are located in deeper water. They are common in lakes
and rivers in Marten River area.
Red Cedar Lake Pike fishing in
Marten River. Clear water lakes produce some of the biggest pike fishing in
Marten River. Although they can see your boat, shadow and sloppy presentations
easier, it is much easier for them to use their sight-feeding habits to prey on
bait fish. To catch more fish in clear water, try fishing early in the morning,
during the evening and on cloudy, rainy and windy days.
During these times, fish are less spooky
because there is less light penetration. Spring and fall is best when these
fish are in the shallows. In the summer, they will suspend in deeper water and
they are very hard to find. You can still catch them, but its tough to
find them. Look for deep water points, humps and sunken islands that are nearby
shallow water. These areas will produce fish consistently. In large lakes like
Red Cedar Lake, pike will stay on the move to follow bait fish. If you can
locate bait fish on the graph, pike will be nearby.
Finding Red Cedar Lake good numbers of
yellow perch is fairly easy. You can usually cast a piece of a worm
around any dock and catch perch. If you have fished a lake with good
populations of perch, you know how easy they are to find. It seems like they
are every where even in Red Cedar Lake in Marten River. When you are looking
for the jumbo perch, it takes more skill than walking out on the dock and
throwing a worm into the water.
The Red Cedar Lake smallmouth bass
is one of the most exciting gamefish. Some Marten River anglers argue that they
are the strongest fish of all pound for pound. Smallmouth bass are slightly
smaller than largemouth, but they make up for it in other ways. They are known
for their excellent leaping ability; sometimes 4 or 5 jumps while winding them
in. Smallmouth will strike lures so violent that make you think it is a bigger
fish on the end of the line. They are very aggressive, which makes them easy to
get to bite, but not necessarily easy to catch. You have to know how to fight
these fish to keep from losing a lot of smallmouth bass. Good anglers can keep
them from jumping, which makes them easier to catch.
Smallmouth can be caught in many Marten
River area lakes, streams and rivers. They thrive the best in the cleanest and
clearest waters available, however, they can be found in murky water also. Some
rivers in our area are very murky and these rivers produce some excellent
smallmouth bass fishing.
