Marian Lake enjoys a healthy population of
Marten River's fish. Early in the season Marian Lake is a favorite spot to find
the walleye. Many anglers find the lakes and rivers of the Temagami and Marten
River area teaming with walleye at the opener. As spring turns to summer the
walleye will move into the lakes and rivers where you will find them along the
weed beds or when fishing the rock piles. Baits used to attract walleye include
night crawlers with a harness and jigs or spinners with live bait. You will
find their preference changes throughout the summer from worms, to minnows or
leaches. The fresh white filets of a Canadian walleye are hard to beat.
Walleye are very mobile. They will swim up
to 100 miles to reach their spawning destination. They will also move
constantly throughout the day based on the current conditions. The light
penetration, water temperature and oxygen content will all play a role in where
the fish will be located throughout the day. Walleye and sauger are arguably
the best-tasting freshwater fish. Anglers love catching and eating these fish.
They are easy to clean and great-tasting on the grill or in a frying pan.

Walleye can be caught many different ways.
These fish are mostly found in deeper water, however, you can find them in less
than 20 feet of water in the spring, fall, and when they are feeding in the
mornings, evenings and throughout the night. It is not uncommon to catch
walleye in water as shallow as 4 or 5 feet, but most of the time, they are
located in deeper water. They are common in lakes and rivers.
